A pair of antique fine earthenware plates from the renowned Bacalan manufactory in Bordeaux, produced under the direction of David Johnston. Marks on the reverse allow them to be precisely dated to between 1834 and 1845 (Louis-Philippe period).
They feature a sepia-brown transfer-printed design in the Romantic style, framed by a wide rim decorated with lace and drapery motifs.

Very good overall condition for plates over 190 years old; as antique items, they bear traces of age and manufacture—please see photos (specifically, glaze discoloration on the undersides).
